West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today alleged that the Naxalites from neighbouring Jharkhand were committing crime in the state.

“They (Naxalites) come from Jharkhand and commit crime here. Your district is also adjacent to Jharkhand. So you must be alert,” Bhattacharjee told a party meeting here in Birbhum district. The district is close to the Naxalite-affected state of Jharkhand.

“The government in Jharkhand is weak, so they have failed to combat Naxalite activities. There the Naxalites can do whatever they like. But here we are trying our best,” he claimed while appealing to the people of the state to be aware of Naxalite activities.

"The Naxalites talk about welfare of the poor but they killed a number of poor people. We will prevent these activities as we had fought against the Naxalites in seventies and succeeded," Bhattacharjee said.

The chief minister alleged that the Trinamool Congress was trying to win everything by force - whether it is school committee of a cooperative society election - after its Lok Sabha results.
