In spite of declaration of an attractive surrender and rehabilitation policy last month for the Naxalites to join the mainstream, the Jharkhand government has not yet received any takers. However, indiscriminate attacks are being launched in various parts of the state by the CPI (Maoist) cadres. In a landmine blast last week, 10 policemen in West Singhbhum district had lost their lives. In another attack on June 12, Naxalites killed 10 policemen and injured several others using landmines and bombs.
During last two months, 110 security personnel had lost their lives in Naxalites attacks in Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and Chhattisgarh.
According to director general of police (DGP), Jharkhand, VD Ram, the offers would attract substantial number of Naxalites to come into the mainstream.The Jharkhand government has declared the following: (1) Rs 2.5 lakh in cash- Rs 50,000 at the time of surrender and the balance in two annual installments, (2) For rocket launcher/LMG -Rs 1 lakh, (3) For AK-47/AK-56, sniper rifles- Rs 75,000, (4) For 303 rifle/pistol/revolver - Rs 15,000 (5) For remote –controlled devices - Rs 6,000, (6) For grenade/hand-grenade - Rs 2,000 (7) For wireless sets - Rs 2,000 to 10,000 depending on range, (8) For IED- Rs 6,000 (9) For explosives - Rs 2,000 per kg,
The state government would provide vocational training to surrendered Naxalites at the cost of Rs 3,000 per month.
