Jharkhand Wants Nhpc To Wind Up 20-Yr Project

The project planned by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) in Ranchi district has led to a bitter legal battle between the company and the Jharkhand government, with the latter indicating it would reject the project as the cost of power generated would be too high.

During hearing of a letter patent appeal (LPA) before the division bench of the Chief Justice P K Balasubramanyan and Justice R K Mehrathia, Jharkhand advocate general AK Sinha submitted recently that the High Court in a public interest litigation (PIL) had asked NHPC to drop the project as the Jharkhand government did not support it.
