JNPT handled 32.41 mt of cargo in 2004

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) handled 32.41 million tonne of cargo (container, bulk, vehicles and liquid) in the calendar year 2004 against the target set by ministry of shipping (MoS) at 31.66 million tonne.
 
JNPT registered growth rate of 8.38 per cent compared with a total throughput of 29.90 million tonne handled during the previous calendar year 2003, a port official said here today.
 
The container terminal of JN Port (JNPCT) has handled 1.147 million teus (twenty million equivalent foot units) in 2004 marking growth of 21.66 per cent as against 0.943 million teus handled in 2003, and registered a growth of 8.42 per cent compared with the MoS target of 1.058 million teus, he said.
 
JNPCT along with its private box terminal Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT), run by P&O Ports, handled 2.361 million teus in 2004 at growth of 8.62 per cent against handling of 2.174 million teus in 2003, he said.
 
"The growth in container traffic at JN Port is 2.09 per cent compared with the target of 2.313 million teus. JN Port had crossed two million teus mark in November 2004," the official said.
 
He said the port is handling over 58 per cent of the country's total container traffic and it would cross 2.3 million teu in the financial year along its private terminal.
 
JN Port handled 3.09 million tonne of liquid cargo at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) berths in 2004. JN Port registered growth rate of 15.69 per cent compared to the total throughput of 2.67 million tonne handled in 2003.
