Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) as a whole handled 4.48 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of container traffic during the calendar year 2015 as compared to 4.47 million TEUs handled during the previous year, registering a growth of 0.10%.
This is the highest-ever container traffic handled in a calendar year since its inception. Of the total container traffic of 4.48 million TEUs, the share of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Container Terminal (JNPCT) is 1.37 million TEUs , which is 30.63% of the total container traffic at JNPT. The share of Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT) is 1.09 million TEUs which is 24.37% of the total container traffic. The share of NSIGT is 0.11 million TEUs (2.36%) and the remaining 1.91 million TEUs (42.64%) are contributed by APM Terminals, Mumbai.
JNPCT, the port-owned and operated container terminal, handled 1.37 million TEUs (17.25 million tonnes) and registered a growth of 3.60% in terms of TEUs and 4.65% in terms of tonnes. JNPCT has handled the highest-ever container traffic of 1.37 million TEUs in the calendar year 2015 since inception, surpassing the previous record of 1.35 million TEUs in the year 2006.
