The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) is to appoint a 'supervisory consultant' to monitor various proposed infrastructure projects at the port.

"JNPTis planning to appoint a supervisory consultant who will assist the port to monitor and supervise the upcoming Rs 16,000 crore infrastructure projects. The port will soon float tenders for inviting applications from project consultancy firms," said a JNPT trustee.

"As several infrastructure projects are lined up with JNPT, the appointment of professional project consultants will expedite the projects," he said.

Meanwhile, JNPT has firmed up several infrastructure projects including the construction of a fourth container terminal and a marine container terminal on a build- operate -transfer basis.

"The port has plans to deepen its channel further at a cost of Rs 640 crore in first phase and build dedicated rail to Delhi at a cost of Rs 5,700 crore," he said. The port plans to enhance port connectivity through the construction of rail lines and roads.
