The US-64 scam will come under the scrutiny of the joint-parliamentary committee on stock scam headed by SPM Tripathi.
This was announced by Lok Sabha speaker GMC Balayogi today after the meeting of the leaders of all parties on the issue.
The Lok Sabha speaker said that it had been decided that all the issues relating to UTI would be considered by the same JPC.
Yesterday, an Opposition-sponsored adjournment motion to censure the government on l'affairs Unit Trust of India was defeated in the Lok Sabha.
Later, Tripathi said that the committee would seek an extension of the time limit for submitting its report.
He said that examining US-64 imbroglio would substantially add to the pending workload of the committee.
As per the original mandate, the committee was supposed to submit its report to Parliament by the end of the current monsoon session.
Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson Jaipal Reddy said today that his party would press for the probe of the PMO's role in whole issue by the JPC.
The committee, which was supposed to resume its meetings from August 1, had postponed the session due to the differences among the members over how to go about the investigation process with regards to the UTI problem.
Tripathi said that the committee would now resume its sitting after the monsoon session as the MPs in the committee were currently busy with their other responsibilities.
UTI figured again in Parliament today when Congress member PR Dasmunshi said that the hard-earned money of small investors had gone down the drain and the culprits responsible for the mess in US-64 should be brought to book.
In reply, parliamentary affairs minister Pramod Mahajan suggested that the issue might be referred to the current JPC inquiring into the market scam.
