JU releases information security management tool

West Bengal information and technology minister, Manabendra Mukherjee today underscored the importance of deciding between open source software and proprietary software in information security matters.

Mukherjee said at the release of the information security management tool suite developed by the Centre for Distributed Computing, Jadavpur University, "The need of the hour is to decide between open source software and proprietary software."

The minister also emphasised on participation of academic institutions development of computer systems and software for the rural sector as well as for e-governance.

Addressing the seminar on enterprise information security management, IT secretary, G D Gautama acknowledged inadequate government participation in development of security systems.

Among other dignitaries who spoke on the occasion were state informatics officer, Subir Roy, Aditya Bagchi of Indian Statistical Institute and Chandan Majumdar of Centre for Distributed Computing, Jadavpur University.
