Jute packing for grain

The government today approved new norms for using jute bags and decided to make its use mandatory for foodgrain packing. After notification of the norms, sugar companies would be required to pack 90 per cent of their output in jute bags.
 
Jute bags would also be required to comply with Bureau of Indian Standard norms, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said.
 
The Cabinet also cleared the creation of the post of a chairperson for the protection of plant varieties and Farmers' Rights Authority.
