K'taka clears TCS' 4 SEZs

The Karnataka government on Monday cleared IT major Tata Consultancy Services' (TCS) proposal for special economic zones (SEZs) at four locations in the state with a combined investment of Rs 1,150 crore in the IT / ITeS sector.
 
In all, 40 projects, involving an estimated investment of Rs 62,864 crore, were cleared by the state high-level clearance committee (SHLCC), led by the chief minister, here.
 
Some of the projects had been approved in-principle at the previous SHLCC meeting. On Monday, the final clearance was given to these projects by the SHLCC, chief minister H D Kumaraswamy told reporters.
 
TCS has proposed SEZs at Devanahalli, Bangalore (Rs 500 crore, 100 acres); Mysore (Rs 410 crore, 50 acres); Hubli-Dharwad (Rs 120 crore, 50 acres) and Mangalore (Rs 120 crore, 50 acres). The employment generation expected from the four projects is 23,200.
 
Shapoorji Pallonji & Company's proposal for a hardware park at Devanahalli on 1,450 acres with an estimated investment of Rs 5,779 crore was also given the final clearance. Similarly, an SEZ for electronic hardware and software including ITeS proposed by Ittina Properties Pvt Ltd at Hoskote on the outskirt's of Bangalore with an investment of Rs 534.58 crore was cleared.
 
Another SEZ proposed by Suzlon Infrastructure Ltd for hi-tech engineering industries at Udupi with an investment of Rs 246.08 crore was also cleared.
 
The investments in non-IT sector are: cement plant by Jaykaycem Ltd at Mudhol in Bagalkot district (Rs 750 crore); Submerged Arc welding pipes plant by JCO Gas Pipe Ltd at Narasapura in Kolar district (Rs 55 crore); cement plant by ACC at Wadi in Gulbarga district (Rs 650.89 crore); Portland Pozzolana cement plant by ACC at Torangallu in Bellary district (Rs 295.83 crore); integrated mini steel plant by SLR Metaliks at Koppal district (Rs 249.08 crore); MRPL refineries at Surathkal and Katipalla in Mangalore (Rs 10,943 crore); cement plants by Vasavadatta Cements at Sedam in Gulbarga district and Thoranagallu (Rs 815 crore); cement plant by JSW Cement Ltd at Thoranagallu (Rs 422 crore); cement plant by Ultratech Cement Ltd at Koppal district (Rs 150 crore) and textile and apparel park at Ramanagaram and SEZ for apparel and textiles by Hinduja Investments Pvt Ltd (Rs 172 crore).
 
The other IT / ITeS SEZs projects approved include: Adarsh Prime Projects Pvt Ltd at Sarjapura, Bangalore (Rs 5,867 crore); Bagmane Developers Pvt Ltd at C V Raman Nagar (Rs 889.66 crore) and at Mahadevapura (Rs 670.30 crore); Information Technology Park Ltd at Whitefiled (Rs 192.13 crore); Quality Engineering & Software Technologies Pvt Ltd at Navanagar, Hubli (Rs 112.30 crore); Total Environment Building Systems Pvt Ltd at Nanjangud in Mysore district (Rs 2,580 crore) and Hinduja Investment Pvt Ltd at Ramanagaram, Bangalore rural district (Rs 201.90 crore).
