The Congress in Karnataka on Monday accused the BJP of "politicising" the issue of arrest of Kanchi seer Jayendra Saraswathi and not showing respect to the rule of law and the Constitution.

Condemning the BJP's protests over the arrest of the seer, KPCC president B Janardhan Poojary charged at a press conference here that the Sangh Parivar was trying to disrupt the due process of law and pressure the judiciary through agitation.

Poojary said the seer had been named as an accused in a murder case involving a "Brahmin, a Hindu" and the BJP was now crying hoarse that the hindu sentiments had been hurt.

He said they also had respect for the swamiji but all were equal in the eyes of the law and the due process of law should be allowed to take its natural course.
