The proposed monorail between Majestic area and Kanakapura Road will be 18 kms and will complement the 32-km metro rail network.

"Work on the monorail network will begin from August 15 this year and the 18-km monorail line will be completed within a year," chief minister H D Kumaraswamy revealed at the meet-the-press programme organised by the Bangalore Reporters' Guild here on Saturday.

He said that the monorail project would not hamper the metro rail and the public property need not be demolished during project execution.

It will be taken up on the build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) basis. The Bangalore Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (BMRDA) has been entrusted with the selection of an agency to execute the project.

The Rail Technical and Economic Services (RITES), which is conducting traffic and transport survey in Bangalore, will recommend three routes on which monorail can be implemented.

It is expected that the monorail will run a total of 95 kms in Bangalore, connecting several points.

The chief minister hopes that both the projects will be completed within scheduled deadlines.

It will also cover linkages to arterial roads along the route, he said, explaining that the finer details were presently being worked out.
