Former President APJ Abdul Kalam has asked budding scientists to explore the possibilities of making mars and moon as alternative habitats for human beings.

Kalam said this at the inauguration of the 15th National Children's Science Congress (NCSC) here in Baramati.

More than 650 students from 30 states in the country and 28 students from various Asian countries are participating in the five-day congress. These kids were selected from a group of six lakh students and their projects are on display between December 27 and January 1.

Kalam urged the students to develop a scientific attitude and work towards solving the problems faced by human beings.

"It's high time that we start searching for a new habitat as the space on this earth is ending fast. The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) has already launched its projects to aim moon and mars. Budding scientists like you now have a challenge to explore new ideas and look at moon and mars as new human habitats," Kalam stated.
