Karavali Utsav begins today

As part of its efforts to promote tourism and culture of the coastal belt, the district administration will hold the Karavali Utsav from December 1 to January 16 at the Mangala Stadium here, deputy commissioner Arvind Srivastav said here on Tuesday.
 
The festival will start with a procession of 30 tableaux, vintage cars and performances by 14 troupes from the district and an equal number from the Nehru Maidan to the stadium at 3 pm on December 1.
 
An exhibition will be part of the utsav and programmes like Elders' Day, Government Employees Day, Elected Representatives Day, Press Day and Bankers Day will be celebrated.
 
The programmes will be held in various parts of the district and will not be restricted to Mangalore alone. Children's Festival will be held at Puttur too, other than Mangalore.
 
Cultural programmes will be held at Bantwal, Belthangady and Sullia. A Tourism Bureau will be set up at the KSRTC premises here and the Bureau as well as a Tourism Board will be inaugurated on December 2.
 
Parasailing, jet skiing and other sports will be held in association with Gen Thimayya Academy and Jungle Lodges. Cruise, water sports and other events which are being introduced this time will be continued if they are found to be successful.
