Karnataka aims to double power production

In his address to the joint session of State Legislature, Governor Rameshwar Thakur said here today, the new government wished to emphasise the importance of infrastructure development, and private sector would be encouraged in the power sector.    

Stating that fruit of information technology must reach every village, he said cyber cafes would be set up in rural areas to promote education and enable the villagers to access information pertaining to agriculture, weather, commodity prices and employment.    

 

"They will also help farmers in speedy communication with the government", the Governor said.    

The governor also said the government would formulate an urban development policy to provide the necessary focus for the development of towns and cities of the State, which is getting increasingly urbanised.    

At the same time, attention would be paid to provision of urban amenities in rural areas (PURA), he said.     

The government would take up road development on priority and prepare a master plan for the purpose, Thakur said, adding, it is proposed to develop some roads through public-private partnership.
