Karnataka Lokayukta Shivaraj Patil late on Monday evening announced his decision to quit the post of Lokayukta in Karnataka. This decision comes against the backdrop of allegations that he had violated rules in securing allotment of residential plots for him and his wife.

Patil has been facing allegations that he secured allotment of 9600 sq ft land from the Judicial Employees Housing Society in 1994 and his wife a 4200 sq ft land from Vyalikaval Housing Cooperative Society in 2006. Patil also owns a house in Vasanthanagar.

He had recently assumed office after the term of Justice Santosh Hegde.
