The Karnataka government is coming out with clear guidelines to curb reckless denotification of land acquired for creation of open spaces and parks in urban residential areas.

Addressing reporters, Suresh Kumar, minister for urban development, law and parliamentary affairs, said, “In the absence of guidelines and due to poor or low compensation to land owners, land acquired and unutilised for more than five years are coming up for denotification claims. This is being exploited for commercial purposes as the land value is increasing. This has led to a shrinkage of open spaces and parks.

Now to put an end to future denotification guidelines are being brought out.” He said it was a matter of grave concern that the government was losing so many open spaces in the city. “We have lost huge tracts to commercial use in Mysore, Bangalore and other major cities to greedy land owners and builders.”
