Not satisfied with just reduction in petrol and diesel prices, allies of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government have demanded a cut in the LPG prices as well.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and leader of DMK, M Karunanidhi has written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanding a price cut in LPG.

Karunanidhi said, “people were happy over the announcement of reduction in the prices of petrol and diesel, as they were expecting it for quite some time.” But he added that “the womenfolk expected reduction in the prices of LPG also” and suggested that the gas price should be restored to its earlier level.

The UPA government had earlier raised the price of cooking gas by Rs 50. Karunanidhi had sent copies of the letter to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Petroleum Minister Murli Deora.
