Karur textile park taking shape

Work on the integrated textile park in Karur is picking up. The park is among the six parks proposed in Tamil Nadu by the textile ministry.
 
Planned on 110 acres in the Manalmedu Thalapatti village on the Karur"�Madurai highway, it will have 400 looms, facilities for gradation and packing among others to cater to exports, official sources said.
 
Tenders have been floated to construct a perimeter wall at an outlay of Rs 1.2 crore.
 
Besides, work on basic amenities like laying of roads, construction of culverts and storm water drainage at a cost of Rs 8.98 crore has been initiated. In the second phase, a water tank would also be laid at an expenditure of Rs 1.4 crore.
 
The Centre has allocated Rs 40 crore and the Tamil Nadu government Rs 5 crore for creating basic infrastructure in the park that include a building for banks, testing laboratories, training centre, exhibition halls, restaurant, and fire and rescue services units.
 
In addition, stakeholders and export units would invest Rs 225 crore in machinery and equipment.
