Telangana Rashtra Samiti founder and Member of Parliament K Chandrasekhara Rao on Friday resigned as president of the party. In a letter to the TRS office bearers, he said he was disturbed over the various allegations levelled on his family following the party's poor performance in the recent elections and hence had decided to quit as party president.

He said the Telangana movement was not dependent on an individual and his resignation would not dampen the spirit of those fighting for a separate state.

The party faced a drubbing in the recent elections and managed just two MP and ten MLA seats. A section of the party cadre has been critical about his leadership and the direction he was giving to the movement. A dissident group led by Dilip Kumar from the party started a separate outfit Telangana Vimochana Samithi, last week, to give a momentum to the Telangana movement.
