Kerala Faces Power Crisis As Water Levels Deplete

If the fast depleting water levels in the reservoirs of various hydropower reservoirs in Kerala are any indication, the state is heading towards one of the worst power crisis in the coming months.

Stating that water level at Idukki, which has the largest reservoir, has drastically declined over the last few weeks, the Central Water Commission (CWC) sources said the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) would now have to resort to prolonged loadshedding to tackle the impending power crisis.

The Kakki, Anathodu and Kochu Pampa reservoirs, which run the Sabarigiri hydro-electric station, the second largest hydel power project in the state, are also fast drying up.
