The Kerala government is planning to go in for mega power projects with Central assistance to tide over the power crisis, State Power Miniser A K Balan said.
"If the State receives central assistance, the government may go in for mega power projects to tide over acute power shortage," Balan told reporters in Kanhangad near here today.
With the government compelled to resort to 30 minutes load shedding in the peak monsoon season, the crisis is bound to aggravate during the summer months when there will not be sufficient water to generate electricity, he said attributing Centre's move to 'drastically' cut power supply from central pool as the sole reason for dismal power situation in Kerala.
Scanty rains has compounded the problems with poor water accumulation in catchment areas of major dams of the state.
Balan, who also holds charge of SC/ST department, was here to inaugurate the CPI(M) sponsored district level convention of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes in Kanhangad. He said the party had 'failed' to fully address the grievances of the SC/ST sections.
A mega dalit convention, hosted by the CPI(M), would be held in Kochi on August 16 and the meeting would be inaugurated by party General Secretary Prakash Karat,he said.
