Former Union minister Arjun Singh yesterday said the authentic voice of the Congress could only be articulated by the party president and the Congress Working Committee and any attempt by anyone to the contrary can only undermine the unity and credibility of the party.
In a statement issued here, Singh said only a United Congress can play the historic role cast on us to preserve and protect the basic integrity of the nation and save our great organisation from being marginalised by forces inimical to it. He said every Congress worker had a duty to perform at this juncture adding let us do it with humility and determination. Each one of us has access to the Congress president and we have a right to convey to him privately our feelings on any public issue. Singh said Congress workers all over the country had witnessed with anguish the undignified attempt by the Prime Minister to malign the Congress and its president on the floor of Parliament.
He said the country was passing through a very critical phase where all the values and principles cherished by the Congress throughout these decades were under threat.
