In order to cater to the needs for documentation works, which require offset quality printing but are turned away by such printers for being small-time job works, the city-based KGN Xerox has installed a state-of-the-art digital colour press, Xerox DocuColor 6060. Costing Rs 2 crore, it is the first of its kind in Andhra Pradesh and second in the country.

KGN Xerox CEO Mohd Akther says it eliminates the technical limitations of conventional offset printing which requires a minimum of thousand copies order for printing.

Offset printers do print less than 1000 copies but charge for a minimum of 1000. However, DocuColor has no such restrictions and delivers the same colour consistency and front-to-back registration.

Besides, it offers variable applications allowing documents to be customised to small groups or personalised to individuals. The machine is also internet-enabled so that outstation orders can be received via mail and printing job could be undertaken.

As for time consumption, it is several times faster than conventional offsets, Akhtar said. He expects to acquire Xerox DocuColor iGen, 3 which costs Rs 5 crore, by 2005.

Xerox product manager G M Ghazi said they were talks with a few clients in metropolitan cities to market DocuColor 6060.
