The July spell of rainfall in Chhattisgarh has resulted in picking up kharif sowing as more than half the area targeted for the season had been covered.According to agriculture department officials, sowing work has been completed in about 66 per cent of the acreage targeted for the kharif season 2014. The state government had set a target to take kharif crops in 4.8 million hectare this year. Of which, paddy would be sowed in 3.6 million hectare.
"The sowing work has been completed in 3.1 million hectare that comes to be around 66 per cent of the target set for kharif crops to be sowed this year," the officials said. The paddy sowing had been completed in 2.5 million hectare area, they added.
