Kharif sowing starts acreage more than last year

Thanks to good winter rains in some parts of northern and central India, sowing of kharif crops has started at a brisk pace. According to preliminary reports provided by the agriculture ministry, area covered under sugarcane, pulses, cotton and jute has been more till date as compared to the same period last year.

Sugarcane has been sown in around 4.89 million hectare till Friday, as compared to 4.56 million hectares during the same period last year. In pulses, moong has been sown in around 112,000 hectare in Uttar Pradesh and urad in 37,000 hectare till date.
