The Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra) and the All-India Handloom Fabrics Marketing Co-operative Society Limited (AHFMCS), New Delhi, have entered in to an agreement for the establishment of an apparel unit at the Kinfra International Apparel Park, Thiruvananthapuram.
According to the agreement, the society will set up an integrated garment-manufacturing unit at the apparel park.
Besides this, the facility will also have units that process yarn and fabric. Work on the facility, which will occupy an area of three acres, will commence soon.

AHFMCS president Rahmatullah Ansari and Kinfra managing director G C Gopala Pillai signed the agreement in Thiruvananthapuram.
Ansari also made a payment of Rs 45 lakh to Kinfra as the cost of the land. Emphasising that the society would do its best to ensure the development of the textile industry in Kerala, Ansari said a major problem faced by the garment industry in Kerala is the absence of a local source of raw material.
This is the main reason why the state has not been able to emerge as an important textile centre despite its prowess in handloom, he added.
