In a bid to improve facilities for international flights, the Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL), the first green field joint sector airport in India, is going in for a Rs 45 crore expansion scheme.

The expansion scheme includes setting up an international terminal at Rs 20 crore, for which the foundation stone would be laid down by Kerala chief minister A K Antony on Tuesday.

A CIAL source said other plans on the anvil include constructing a Rs 14.5 crore parallel taxi track, setting up of a Rs 10 crore cargo exporters' village and expansion of the current apron.

The scheme is expected to attract more carriers and thereby increase the global connectivity of Kochi, he added.
