The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has issued a notice to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) to pay Rs 6 lakh dues, failing which the fire services at the air strip would be discontinued.

The air strip is under the MIDC's control. KMC provides fire fighting equipment to aerodrome on daily basis.

KMC's provides the services at the time of arrival and departure of planes. KMC charges Rs 20 per km and a waiting charge of Rs 275 per hour. MIDC authorities did not pay the dues and kept delaying it for no reasons.

The recovery of the dues was discussed in the KMC's general body meeting. Corporators questioned the KMC for being lenient towards the MIDC. They blamed that comparatively poor institutions and common citizens are harassed for recovery of dues by the KMC.

In response, the KMC administration acted quickly and notices were served. Dattraya Mandalik chief of the KMC's fire department said that MIDC's local officials had been served the notice and similar notices are being sent to MIDC's offices in Pune and Mumbai.

Sources in MIDC said that the concerned official had rushed to Pune to sort out the matter and get the pay order for the KMC's dues.
