Kolkata Port Expects Record Cargo

Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) was likely to surpass the target of 32 million tonne cargo for the financial year ending March 2003 by a handsome margin.

Going by the trend of the first ten months of this fiscal, the port was likely to end 2002-3 with close to 35 million tonne cargo, much higher than 32 million tonne estimated by the ministry of shipping (MoS). In 2001-2, KoPT handled 30 million tonne cargo.

Combined cargo handled by two arms of KoPT, Kolkata Dock System and Haldia Dock Complex (HDC), has already touched nearly 29 mn tonne in the first ten months of this fiscal.
