Koppal attracts industries

Koppal the backward district of Hyderbad-Karnataka region has suddenly become a favourite place for soft iron industries. Adjoining Gadag and Raichur districts, Koppal is attracting good number of industries of late.
 
Declared as industrially backward, Koppal finds favour with the industrialists as it provides cheap labour, raw materials and water besides connectivity through national higway and railway. The area has proved advantageous for establishment of industries related to iron and its products.
 
Hospet Steel Company, a joint venture of Kalyani and Mukund Steels near Ginigera, Kirloskar Ferrous near Bevinahalli and Brindavan Breweries near Hirebaganal are doing well since past several years. Recnetly, Hospet Spot Limited and Dhruvadesh Metal Private Limited have been set up and they have become functional.
 
The district industries' centre has sent a proposal to the state government for setting up of Industrial Growth Centre at Koppal. The DIC has proposed to purchase 250 acres for the purpose between Ginigera and Basapur.
 
Joint director of DIC Parameshwarappa said industries requring less water was being encouraged as the district was facing water scarcity. It was not possible to provide water to industries from Tungabhadra River, he said. He said 17 more industries are expected to be set up in Bellary and five more in Koppal.
