The mini port, promoted by the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (Kinfra) and the South Indian Chamber of commerce and Industry (SICCI) with central assistance, is being built with public-private participation and is almost complete.

According to a Kinfra official, the port is being built as an export promotion facility with the assistance from the Union Ministry of Commerce.

The port will be operated via road and water-ways. Once complete, the port will have the capacity to handle 250 TEU of containers, both export and import.

The mini port would cater to the needs of nearly 1,000 registered export and import concerns operating from the districts of Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki.

The project boasts of being the first inland water way port in India. This facility will be open to public soon for commercial shipping operations, the official added.
