Rail Bhawan officials said,The UNESCO committee felt that the Kalka - Shimla railway Line is commanding an outstanding universal value and termed it as one of the most authentic mountain railways in the world. Now KSR will be included in international map which will help in gaining larger tourist attention.UNESCO will also provide the technical expertise for its maintenance and renovation.
The Kalka - Shimla railway line is a 96 kilo metre narrow gauge route from Kalka to Shimla that runs through 102 tunnels, many arched bridges and many picturesque stations like Dharampur, Barog and Solan among others. The railway line was opened to traffic on November 9, 1903.
