Within a week of witnessing a massive labour unrest, the Essar Steel project near Paradip on Tuesday faced yet another agitation by the land losers who staged demonstration in front of the project office and locked its main gate demanding fulfillment of their eight-point charter of demands.
Meanwhile, police arrested three land losers for assaulting and misbehaving one contractor of the company worsening the situation at the plant site.
The strike by the villagers of Paradipgarh, Mangrajpur, Nuagada, Handia, Patilipanka, Bijayachandrapur, Udayabata, Balidihi, Goradia, Singitali and Jhimani under the banner of United Action Committee has hit the construction work of the project, source said. Their demands included job to one member of each affected family, implementation of rehabilitation and resettlement policy 2006, provision of fund for peripheral development, training of local youths on various skills, construction of rehabilitation colony for affected families etc.
