The last leg of 'Kesaria Yatra', led by Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi as part of BJP's campaign for the coming Lok Sabha polls, will begin from the temple town of Ambaji in Banaskantha district of north Gujarat on Thursday. |
The three-day yatra in a saffron car will cover the entire central and north Gujarat districts, traversing around 300 kms. Apart from Banaskantha and Sabarkantha constituencies, Modi will address election meetings at Ameergarh, Iqbalgarh, Virampur, Khedbrahma, Vadali, Idar, Vijaynagar in the first phase on Thursday. |
Banaskantha and Sabarkantha are water scarcity-hit areas of the state. |
Modi will address election meetings in Kheda and Anand Lok Sabha constituencies in the second phase. |
He will also cover a few other constituencies during his yatra. |
The chief minister will fly to Tarapur in Kheda district from Vijaynagar and will address meetings at Tarapur, Sojitra, Petlad, Dharmaj, Bochasan, Borsad, Bhadran Ankalv and Anand, a party spokesperson said. |
In an attempt to strengthen the party's base in the region, the yatra has been planned in such a way that it covers mostly those areas where BJP's vote figures were not very impressive in the last Lok Sabha polls. |
The vehicle, specially-designed for the yatra, has been mounted with big posters of the Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani. |
The prime minister will be in the state on Friday to address election meetings in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad. |
Modi has already completed election tour of over 50 assembly constituencies in the Saurashtra and the south Gujarat regions in the last two weeks. |
Other prominent BJP leaders are also touring various parts of the state to campaign. |
