The ruling CPI-M led LDF and UDF spearheaded by Congress were in a neck-and-neck race as early trends began to pour in from 140 Assembly segments of Kerala.
LDF is leading in 26 seats and UDF in 22, according to official reports. Chief Minister and CPI-M veteran V S Achuthanandan was leading in Malampuzha constituency.
The constituencies where the UDF candidates are maintaining lead include Kalpetta, Vatakara, Varkala, Kazhakoottam, Thodupuzha and Manjeri.
The LDF candidates are leading in Dharmadam, Nadapuram, Kozhikode North
