The foundation stone would be laid for a Rs 100 crore convention centre at nearby Akulam and also ISRO's Indian Institute of Space and Research here during the one-month celebration period, Achuthanandan said. Distribution of free text books to all students upto eighth standard would also begin.
The Chief Minister said the opposition UDF's decision to observe May 18 as "deception day" was politically motivated.
The Congress-led combine was "very sad" because the LDF government had completed many projects like the Smart City IT Park, initiated by the previous UDF regime, he said.
Achuthanandan termed as "baseless", reports of differences among LDF partners over the issue of proposed 'People's Food Security schemes' and said the government would implement them and discussions were on in this regard.
