However, some Left leaders did not sound so optimistic as they felt the Left parties had not been able to provide an alternative platform. Karat, however, did not waste any time and held a meeting with DMK leader and Union Shipping and Road Transport Minister T R Baalu at the CPI(M) headquarters on Wednesday. Baalu reportedly told him that he would convey the message to his boss K Karunanidhi. Karat is also planning to hold parleys with Lalu Prasad's RJD of Bihar, Samajwadi Party (which offers outside support to UPA) and NCP. The Congress will also call a meeting of the UPA allies soon. A top leader of the party said: "Already, the allies have told us that they support our stand. But some more meetings will follow."
