Fresh from its stunning victory in the Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress today demanded imposition of President's rule in the state and fresh elections be ordered.

TC leader Dinesh Trivedi, whose party won 19 of the 42 seats in the state, said the Left parties have lost the confidence of the people. "In a democracy ultimately it is the verdict of the people and the people of West Bengal have spoken very loud and very clearly. This is a no-confidence motion against the CPM government led by Buddhadev Bhattacharjee," Trivedisaid.

"The law and order machinery has totally collapsed.....There is so much atrocity on the common man in West Bengal. CPM atrocities is unleashed unlimited," he said. "The Left Front government in West Bengal must go and let there be President's Rule and let there be fresh mandate. Let the people decide which way they want to go," he said.

Trivedi said the Left parties had made a similar demand and got it in 1977 when elections were held in most states after the national emergency. "I don't think you should have double standards," Trivedi said.

West Bengal has been under Left Rule for more than two decades. An upbeat Congress-Trinamool Congress alliance feels the wind is finally blowing in its favour.
