Left party workers today burnt UPA effigies separately in the city to express their protest against the hike in petrol and diesel prices.

CPM workers led by D Kasinath burnt the effigy at Ragavaiah Park Centre while CPI activists led by city unit secretary K Subbaraju burnt the UPA government effigy at Lenin centre.

Left party leaders said that Centre's announcement of hike would push prices of essential commodites and hit the common people and demanded the government to roll back the prices immediately.

Meanwhile, CPM Krishna district unit secretary U Umamaheswara Rao said in a press release that people were already facing several problems due to spiralling prices of daily commodities and the present hike in oil prices will prove an additional burden on them.
