Lignite-Based Power Plant In Rajasthan

The Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam plans to set up a lignite-based power plant at Giral in Barmer district and has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with another the Rajasthan State Mineral Development Corporation.

The MoU will allow the power corporation to use the large deposits of lignite available in Barmer, Bikaner and Nagaur district.

The mineral corporation will supply 1 million tonne of lignite to the power corporation for producing electricity.

The 125 mw Giral power station will be the first lignite-based power unit in the state. It is estimated to cost Rs 618 crore.
