Karnataka government today declared the indefinite strike being launched by sand transporters from tonight as “illegal” and warned that action would be initiated against them.
The government has held several rounds of talks with representatives of Federation of Karnataka Lorry Owners on their demands,transport minister R Ashok told reporters here. Their demands included preventing ‘’harassment’’ from officials including police. Criticising the frequent strikes by lorry owners, which he described as ‘’blackmail tactics’’, Ashok said the officials have been taking action against those lorries which were overloading and committing other forms of offence.
He said he would discuss with chief minister B S Yeddyurappa the action to be initiated against lorry owners.
