Though the state government may include it in its achievement list, paddy procurement and distribution in Chhattisgarh has not been a good deal in the lens of audit watchdog.
The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in its report on General, Social and Economic (Non-PSUs) said that the Marketing Federation-a state-run government undertaking-routinely incurred losses in procurement and distribution of paddy.
For, it ran its businesses by taking interest-bearing loans from the banks. The report said that it was imperative that it adopted sound management practices. Steps taken by the MARKFED (Marketing Federation) to minimize its interest burden were inadequate due to non-finalisation of accounts and delayed submission of loss.
