A low voter turnout, around 12 per cent, was recorded from all the six Lok Sabha constituencies in Jharkhand till 9 am today .

While Chatra, Palamau, Khunti, Lohardaga and Koderma registered a voting between five per cent and ten per cent, Hazaribagh recorded 12 per cent polling, according to official sources here.

Former finance minister and BJP candidate from Hazaribagh Yashwant Sinha cast his vote at Hupad polling booth while former chief minister Babulal Marandi was among the early voters at his Kodaibak constituency in Koderma Lok Sabha constituency.

Poor voter turnout was witnessed at several booths in rural areas with the voters of Raghuniyadih village under Koderma Lok Sabha constituency calling for a poll boycott in protest against alleged non-development of their area during the past five years.

Meanwhile, security forces averted a major disaster when they found an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing 200 kg in Hazaribagh's Vishnugarh area, Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kamboj said.

A bomb disposal squad has been called in to defuse it.
