LPG cavern project to get off the ground

 At last all the roadblocks have been cleared to take up the India's first underground LPG storage cavern project at Visakhapatnam.

 State-owned Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and France-based Total Fina have jointly proposed to set up the LPG project at Visakhapatnam port area. They have formed a special purpose vehicle called South Asia LPG company (SALPG).

 Actually, the construction of this project should have been undertaken one year back, but some hurdles came up through objections from Vizag port and the Eastern Naval Command. SALPG has now obtained all the clearances necessary from port and the Eastern Naval Command to start the project.

 Meanwhile, SALPG has also finalised the tenders to take up this work a few months ago. Engineering giant Larson & Toubro has bagged both the ground and under ground works.

 At present, we have got all the clearances and approvals from all departments. L&T will start the works from November and should complete the project within 33 months from the zero date,
