The demand for clemency to Mohammad Afzal, who has been sentenced to death for his role in the 2001 attack on the Parliament, has become louder in Kashmir with mainstream political leaders and separatists joining the chorus.

A Delhi Court had issued the "death warrant" against Afzal who is to be hanged till death on October 20 in the national capital's high security Tihar Jail.

The ruling has evoked protests and shut-downs in Srinagar, the region's main city.
