The Maharashtra government today said it has proposed a package of Rs 7,262 crore for six districts in farmer suicide-hit Vidarbha region.
"We are awaiting Centre's approval for implementing the Rs 7,262 package proposed for six districts in Vidarbha region. The Central government's response is expected within three months," Revenue Minister Narayan Rane told the Legislative Council here today.
"The quantum of state government's contribution would be decided based on the response from the Centre," he said.
The state government would also reconsider claims of families of farmers, who committed suicide during the last two years, for compensation, Rane said.
"We will reconsider claims by families of farmers who committed suicide between 2008 and 2010, so that the government can give them compensation," Rane said.
Minister of State for Revenue Prakash Solanke informed the House about the number of farmer suicides in Vidarbha region as recorded by the government.
