Maha sales tax dept parteners with SAS

The dept hopes to curb practices of evasion and suppression activities performed by fraudulent dealers

Maharashtra Sales Tax Department (MSTD) has partnered with business analytics software and services company SAS to identify and minimise revenue loss through tax evasion.  

MSTD contributes to approximately two-third of the total revenue of the State Government and has a workforce of 11,000 professionals.

With the deployment of SAS analytics solutions, MSTD will leverage data-driven decision making in devising policies to maximise tax collection through universal coverage of all eligible tax payers.

SAS' business intelligence solutions will enable decision support and resource optimisation across various divisions of MSTD. The department, after the successful implementation of analytics solutions, hopes to curb practices of evasion and suppression activities performed by fraudulent dealers.
 

Commenting on the alliance Vinay Kargaonkar, special inspector general of police (Vigilance) Maharashtra Sales Tax, said "I hope the cutting edge tools of data mining and data analysis from SAS would surely help department to curb the revenue leakages and enhance the state revenue."
