The Maharashtra government today said it has sought around Rs 1,170 crore Central relief aid for Phyan cyclone affected victims.
Winding up two-day discussion on a motion moved by Gopaldas Agarwal (Congress) and others on Phyan, which had hit the coastal region between November 11 and 13, State Revenue Minister Narayan Rane told the legislative assembly that the state had sought a Rs 1,171-crore fund from the Centre and and financial assistance is expected to reach shortly.
The state government is fully aware of the situation and extent of damage. To meet the extensive damage caused to standing crops, fishing, horticulture, properties and loss of human lives, an interim relief of Rs 65 crores was released by the government, Rane said.
About 8.24 lakh hectares in 28 districts of Maharashtra have been affected due to the cyclonic storms, he said. About 34 fishermen-khalasi (labourers) are missing after the cyclone and the authorities concerned are searching them, he said.
However, not satisfied with the minister's reply, Sena-BJP-led Opposition staged a walkout.
