Maharashtra Government has decided to undertake a re-survey of land records in the state after a gap of more than eight decades.
This excercise will be a five-year programme and the most modern technology will be used for the purpose. But the field inquiry and verification will require massive man power, Principal secretary (Revenue) Swadheen Kshatriya said.
He said Land settlement commissioner Chandrakant Dalvi has been asked to prepare a report on the time frame, kind of technology and timing of launch. "We are awaiting a concrete proposal from his end after which will be submitted to the government for clearance," he added.
Kshatriya said the Electronic Total System (ETS) equipment can be put at one place and measurement of a radius of five kms can be done. "Later, notices have to be sent to concerned persons for their views and objections. It is a very long drawn process," he added.
The Land Settlement Commissioner's report will include technical views regarding whether the technology used will be one or combination of various technologies. “We will finalise the time frame very soon," he added.
Densely populated areas especially in urban areas will be a challenge, Kshatriya said. According to him, when the land survey is completed and records are updated, there will be clear, conclusive land titles.
